A few days ago country singer Blake Shelton called the fans of traditional country music old farts and jackasses. In this episode we are showing what today’s traditional country music is about. Traditional country music is in fact alternative country to the mainstream Nashville tasteless music. At different times of the country music history, some artists reacted to the mainstream country music by playing it « traditional ». By this way they were qualified as outlaws, rebels, alternative artists, cowpunks and so on. Let’s give an ear to those who kept bearing the torch of authentic music that can be as well marketed and popular as mainstream formatted music. Let’s remember the Nashville Rash and sundown with Dale Watson, Marty Stuart and Webb Wilder. Whatever Shelton says, Waylon’s stating Bob Wills is still the King. We cannot say that Cody Jinks’ young voice is a matter of old farts. Hank III is still kicking your ass while punk rocker Mike Ness pays respect to honky-tonkers. Bob Wayne hates love songs by singing them in the most honky-tonk way you may ever imagine. James Hand and David Allan Coe can perform at a Texas hall saturday night party even when Shelton will retire. We are old farts, we play jackass music and we love that!
